The New Gospel
Om Jesus levde idag, vilka människor skulle han kämpa för? Vilka skulle hans apostlar vara?
I filmen The New Gospel iscensätter Milo Rau den bibliska berättelsen om Jesus i ett nutida Europa. Jesus spelas av den kamerunske aktivisten Yvan Sagnet och hans apostlar är de förtryckta, de fattiga migranter som kom över Medelhavet till Europa och som förslavats på tomatfälten i södra Italien och lever under omänskliga förhållanden. The New Gospel är ett manifest för solidaritet med de fattigaste, en revolt för en mer rättvis och human värld.
Filmen från 2019 har hyllats på den prestigefyllda filmfestivalen i Venedig där den hade premiär och har blivit uttagen till filmfestivalen IDFA i Amsterdam, FIFDH i Genève, Soluthurn Film Festival, Cinéma du Réel i Paris och Locarno Film Festival. Den har även visats på teaterfestivalen i Avignon. Filmen vann priset Årets dokumentär i Schweiz 2021.

If Jesus lived today, which people would he fight for? Who would his apostles be?
In the film The New Gospel, Milo Rau stages the biblical story of Jesus in contemporary Europe. Jesus is played by the Cameroonian activist Yvan Sagnet and his apostles are the oppressed, the poor migrants who came across the Mediterranean to Europe and who are enslaved in the tomato fields of southern Italy and live in inhumane conditions. The New Gospel is a manifesto for solidarity with the poorest, a revolt for a more just and humane world.
The New Gospel from 2019 has been acclaimed at the prestigious Venice Film Festival where it premiered and has been selected for the IDFA Film Festival in Amsterdam, the FIFDH in Geneva, the Soluthurn Film Festival, the Cinéma du Réel in Paris and the Locarno Film Festival. It has also stayed at the theater festival in Avignon. The film won the Documentary of the Year award in Switzerland 2021.
